Biography and Clinical interests
Dr Akhilesh Tiwari is a dual specialist in anaesthesia and pain medicine practising at Mater Private Hospital Townsville.
He completed his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery at Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences in India, before moving to the National University Hospital in Singapore to work as a clinical fellow in anaesthesia and chronic pain.
He has also worked and trained in Toronto, Canada at St. Michael’s Hospital and Toronto Western Hospital.
Dr Tiwari received further training in regional anaesthesia, trauma neuro anaesthesia and critical care at the University of Toronto.
He also developed an interest in the role of ultrasound in anaesthesia and pain medicine while working in Toronto.
Upon moving to Townsville in 2016, Dr Tiwari worked at Townsville University Hospital where he completed his fellowship with the Faculty of Pain Medicine, Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (FFPMANZCA).
He now consults privately with LiveWell Pain Management Clinic, practising at Mater Private Hospital Townsville and also out of his rooms in Cairns through NQ Pain.
He is competent in advanced pain interventions like nerve blocks, epidural injections, radiofrequency ablations, and other advanced neuromodulation techniques like spinal cord stimulators.
