Biography and Clinical interests
Dr Joanne Tan is a medical oncologist practising at Mater Private Hospital Townsville, ICON Townsville, and the Townsville University Hospital.
Dr Tan completed a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) at James Cook University in Townsville, and undertook advanced medical oncology training at tertiary hospitals in Brisbane and Townsville. She obtained fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians in 2017.
Her clinical experience covers a wide range of solid tumour malignancies, with a special interest in gastrointestinal cancer, gynaecological cancer and breast cancer as well as telehealth and regional/rural medicine. She previously worked as a medical oncology staff specialist at Bundaberg Hospital from 2017 to 2023, and was an associate senior lecturer at The University of Queensland’s Rural Clinical School.
In 2023, she returned to her hometown Townsville where she grew up. She holds a senior staff specialist medical oncology appointment at the Townsville University Hospital. She remains actively involved in multiple clinical trials, and junior doctor education. She is an associate senior lecturer with James Cook University (College of Medicine and Dentistry).
