Biography and Clinical interests
Dr Ramesh Velu trained as a Vascular surgeon in India, the UK and Australia. He has worked in Birmingham (UK), Hamilton (New Zealand), Perth and Townsville.
He has been a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh since 2000 and received his Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in Vascular Surgery in 2006. He holds a position of Senior Staff Specialist within the Vascular Surgery department at Townsville University Hospital.
Dr Velu has extensive experience in endovascular surgical procedures along with traditional open surgical procedures. He regularly attends international training programs and conferences to ensure that his patients receive the best treatment possible.
Dr Velu is a supervisor of vascular trainees and is involved with the James Cook University Medical School as a clinical teacher of medical students. He is an assessor for medical student examinations and supervisor for honours projects and participates in the recruitment of new medical students. He has published articles in various national and international journals.
Dr Velu consults privately at Mater Hospital Townsville and Mater Private Hospital Mackay.
