Biography and Clinical interests
Dr Shane Anderson is the only fellowship-trained otologist and paediatric ENT surgeon in Northern Australia. He is Director of North Queensland Ear, Nose and Throat Surgery, the ENT Department at Townsville University Hospital, and the North Queensland Cochlear Implant Unit.
Raised in Townsville, Dr Anderson completed his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery at James Cook University and The University of Queensland. After commencing his training in South East Queensland, Dr Anderson worked in the UK and completed his advanced surgical training in Otolaryngology in 2012. He earned a Fellowship from the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2013 and was awarded the prestigious fellowship at the University of Arkansas under Professor John Dornhoffer in cochlear implants and middle ear surgery.
Dr Anderson established NQ ENT in 2015, specialising in paediatric surgery, middle ear surgery, and cochlear implantation. He is certified by Cochlear Corporation, MedEl, and Advanced Bionics in cochlear implant surgery.
He is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and a member of various professional societies, including the American Academy of Otolaryngology and the International Working Group on Endoscopic Ear Surgery. Dr Anderson's research focuses on otological outcomes, cochlear implantation, and the effects of hyperbaric oxygen on hearing loss, with several publications in leading journals and textbooks.
